Today we are talking about installing printers in Windows, a procedure that has created some problems too much for users, often because of drivers. For testing we will use a multifunction Epson XP-204 that has Wi-Fi support.
Even if you want to use it with WiFi connection, the initial configuration must be done via USB, so I left the unplugged cable during installation, as set out in the installation manual.
At the end of the required software installation process we connected the USB cable and after the connection, Windows reported a new USB device connection, a popup indicated the driver installation and after a few minutes I heard the USB error sound and a message that the driver can not be installed, a mistake unfortunately very common.
Like the fact that printers may not be recognized by Windows.
The Device Manager window displays the printer in the “Other Devices” category and a small yellow triangle with an exclamation mark, indicating that the driver is not in place.
After several unsuccessful attempts, such as uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, or clicking Update Driver, oslit is not enough, we can install a new driver downloaded with Driver Genius after scanning the system, in fact the problem could also be USB drivers.
In some cases, it may be necessary if you are in the Windows operating system, for example using the Microsoft Fixit tool. Installed three versions of this tool and in all cases it detected the printer was not installed and the solution would be to install the same driver!
In other cases there are strange absences of indispensable files for proper functioning such as the usb.inf file (located in the inf folder inside the Windows installation) that causes the recognition of a number of peripherals connected through this interface.
To find out if this file is missing, open Windows Explorer and look at the folders. If you are missing, you can copy the file from another PC, or save it for example here.
